"Hell no, someone cuts something off my d*ck, it better be for vengance!"
Romance and Cigarettes - a star studded film: James Gandolfini, Susan Sarandon, Kate Winslet, Christopher Walken, Mary Louise Parker, Mandy Moore and Steve Buscemi.
This film is simple enough: man is married with three daughters. He cheats on his wife and she finds out and kicks him out. Basic story, with the only added twist with his remorse is the discovery that he has lung cancer.
I wanted to like this film. So many stars. But alas, it was not meant to be. I couldn't get over the fact that Mary Louise Parker was James Gandolfini and Susan Sarandon's child. Didn't buy it. I couldn't understand half of what Kate Winslet said. And the main reason this film did not succeed for me was the fact that characters burst into song accompanied by backup dancers and it isn't the fact that there was song BUT the fact that the songs the characters sing are modern songs AND the actual song is played. So you are watching the film prepared to cringe a little at some poor vocal talent but what the hey, let's give it a go - but then you don't even hear them singing.
Overall, the film just wasn't that good. No need to rent this unless you feel the need to support John Tuturro and if you love Christopher Walken - but you may need to fastforward A LOT to find bits that amuse.
