"God? ... No God."
30 Days of Night - stars a plethora of unknowns, the exception being Josh Harnett and based on a series of graphic novels of the same name.
An Alaska town prepares for 30 days of no sun in the winter. Snow is falling and weird things are happening. The sheriff of the town is trying to ready the town for the endless night while trying to deal with the deterioration of his marriage. Odd things are happening - cell phones go missing, animals are found dead, and the generator for the town is acting up. Night descends and vampires arrive. The town is attacked and the town is divided into groups. Those who are able to hide from the vampires and those who are eaten. The revelry is ghastly. The survivors are quite resourceful.
I read the graphic novel prior to watching this film. I only read the first book though. I liked it a lot which is why I rented the film. The film and the book are different, in some major ways. That being said, I still enjoyed the film a lot. However, if you like the comic you may not like the film. The heart of the book is kept in the film. If you are a fan of darker vampire flicks you'll enjoy this. Rent it!
