"The only man a woman can trust is your son." "Is Mikey your son?"

Shadowboxer - starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Helen Mirren, and Stephen Dorf. This film was interesting. Cuba stars as Mikey and Helen as Rose. Mikey and Rose are hired guns. They are hired by Stephen Dorff, Clayton, to kill his wife and unborn child because he thinks his wife has cheated on him.

Rose and Mikey are sleeping together, which is disturbing because the audience later learns that they entered each other's lives when Mikey was 7! Up until that point the audience is sort of on board with the relationship. You can tell that the two love each other and take care of each other. We learn that Rose has cancer which is why she is unable to kill Clayton's wife and child.

Rose, Mikey, Vicki and child set up a life together in the suburbs. Mikey continues to go on jobs and eventually Rose dies (I'll leave you in suspense as to how she leaves this earth). Before Rose dies she makes Mikey promise that he will do whatever Vicki asks of him. It is pretty obvious from the time Rose decides to not kill Vicki that she is planning her legacy and wants Mikey to have someone and a child after she is gone.

This movie is NOT for everyone. There are some sex scenes between Mo'Nique and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Mikey and Rose that I thought were a little bit much. This movie had some interesting elements but I would ask that you contact me before watching it...
