"Are you American?" "Don't hold that against me." "Don't say anything loud or crass..."
In Bruges - starring Colin Farrell, Ralph Fiennes, and Brendan Gleeson.
Two assassins hole up in Bruges after a job goes seriously wrong. Ray (Colin Farrell) is a young guy. He has never been to Bruges and is dragged about the city by Ken (Brendan Gleeson). They work for the same boss Harry Waters (Ralph Fiennes). He has instructed the two to stay in Bruges while they are waiting for a new assignment.
The two meet a variety of people along the way: the pregnant owner of the hotel they are staying at, a midget actor filming a movie in Bruges, and a young female con artist. The men are contimplating life. Ray is worried about the mistake he made and Ken is worried about the job he has left to do.
This film is interesting and dark. Akin to Layer Cake in that it is a UK "ganster" film. Not as much humor as Snatch, but interesting nonetheless. The film goes down several paths that were unexpected but thought provoking. The last ten minutes of the film is odd but over all an interesting and worthwhile film. See it if you enjoyed Layer Cake.
