Hot Mess

Post Grad - Alexis Bledil, Michael Keaton, Jane Lynch, and Carol Burnett. Such a promising cast for such a disappointing film.

Rayden (Bledil) has graduated from college. She has a plan. She wants to work at a book publishing house in LA. Her best friend Adam has been accepted to Columbia Law School but is not so sure if he wants to pursue law or music. He is sure he wants to pursue her. Rayden is not hired by her dream job and is forced to move in with her eclectic but loving family. She is also forced to hit the pavement and try to secure employment.

I wanted to like this movie. It has a straight forward plot but hits all the same notes with no new area mined. Rayden is the perfect student who doesn't get the job she wants. She has a lovely boy in love with her and she falls for her neighbor who is too old for her and at a completely different stage of his life. She hurts her best friend who uses this one act of flakiness to move his life forward. She of course gets the job of her dreams and realizes that people are more important than jobs and she is love with Adam. See if could have been a great romantic comedy, but the time line was muddied, the humor nonexistent, and too many random plot points including a night in jail, a box car race, and a dead cat.

This film tried too hard but not enough. Once more I blame the writer and the editor, what were you thinking? Don't see this painful movie. It is not worth it.
