"I've had two years to grow claws, mother. Jungle red."

The Women - (1939) Norma Sherea, Rossalind Russell, and Joan Crawford.

Mary Haines (Norma Sherea) is a woman of society. She has a husband and a daughter. She has a house in the country and an apartment in New York City. She is surrounded by friends and foes. Her "good friend" and cousin, Sylvia Fowler (Rossalind Russell) is always about and full of gossip. Mrs. Fowler discovers from a manicurist that Mr. Haines is stepping out on Mrs. Haines with a shop girl, Ms. Allen (Joan Crawford). The movie unfolds as Mrs. Haines decides what to do about this new found information - her husband is cheating on her. What's a married woman in 1939 to do?

Excellent delightful fun film! Everyone, minus the Haines' daughter, is great in her respective role. There are no men in this film. I would watch this movie again and again. The dialogue, the cattiness, the fashion, the decisions, and the acting - superb. I also saw the 2008 remake - terrible. I wish I could get my money back. That being said I think I appreciated the original film that much more when I saw how superior it is to the remake. There are few child actors that can actually act - the Haines' daughter was ok but is what I deem a "typical child actor" - she's trying, she's not a natural.

Rent it. If you like Gilmore Girls, Adam's Rib or suffered through the remake - see this film.
