"It'll warm up once you get in." "F*ck you! You come out here!"

Ed Wood - Another movie I have been wanting to see for awhile. Johnny Depp stars as Ed Wood jr. the worst director ever. He is beautifully optimistic and deluded. The film is in black and white. It is set in the 50s in Hollywood.

This movie is great - it makes you want to watch his movies. Ed Wood was a transvestite. He loses one girlfriend over this, and the fact that he was a terrible director and she was an aspiring actress, and wins another. Ed Wood also brought Bela Legosi back into films.

This is a great bio-pic. I was absorbed. It was very funny and interesting, I love interesting movies about people. The actors in this movie were delightful. Ed Wood was an interesting character. He is not a good director - but that is what lends heart and humor to this film. A worthwhile rent even if it is a tad long.

"Take care of your family and your property..."

Confederate States of America - very interesting film. C.S.A. is a documentary style film about what the United States of America would be like now if the South had won. It is eye opening. The film runs as if the viewer is watching this documentary on television with commercial breaks as if the viewer is presently in the Confederate States of America.

This movie is interesting. It crafts the history of Confederate States around the history of the United States. It both shows how appalling slavery was but also how easily it could slip into present day culture.

I think this is a worthwhile rent. It dips into American history. It is a little scary but on the whole very interesting and educational. Rent it.

"Do you know where I live?" "No." "Well, f*ck off then."

Layer Cake - There are only two "recognized" stars in this film - Colm Meaney and Daniel Craig. I suspect this movie is why Daniel Craig became the new James Bond. Daniel Craig is the narrator and protagonist. He is one of the middle men in a drug hierarchy. He is also, of course, trying to get out.

This movie is a depiction of the underbelly of the London drug gangster scene. Daniel has been successful and is ready to leave the business. His boss gives him two tasks - find the daughter of a friend and sell pills that turned out to be stolen from another drug dealer in Amsterdam. Both tasks are filled with peril.

It portrays both the dark and unpleasant aspects and the funny and appealing aspects as well. The director used an interesting technique of depicting dual scenes cutting back and forth where in one scene you are not quite sure what is going on. After watching the movie all I could think of was how it reminded me of both Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels but minus the humor of those films. Watching the behind the scenes vignettes (I think that is where it said) Layer Cake was the same director as the previously mentioned films.

It is noted that although many names are dropped: Clarkie, Duke, Slasher, Gazza, Morty, Gene, Jimmy Price, Charlotte, and Kinky. However, Daniel Craig's name is not revealed. Quite a feat because to be honest it isn't really noteworthy until the end. I liked this film. But then again I am a fan of the british gangster film. I reccommend this film if you enjoyed Snatch.

"Who is Howard? Where is Howard?

Don't Come Knocking - an indie film that took 5 years to make it to you DVD rental store. Sony Pictures Classic and I have quite a thing going on - how I heard about this film. Howard Spense is an aging movie actor. He is quite the lone cowboy. He is also into women, drugs, drink and gambling. When the movie begins Howard is running away from his latest film. At the end of his rope he returns to his mother's home after an absence of 30 years.

On his tail is Tim Roth, a sort of bounty hunter, he is paid by the movie studio to find Howard and bring him back to his movie per his contract. Howard while at his mother's is informed that he has a child. Unsure of what to do with his life he goes in search of his child. He returns to the small Montana town where he filmed his first movie and apparently knocked up Jessica Lange. This movie actually has some interesting moments concerning relationships, learning, life, and love.

This movie was overall pretty enjoyable. There were some funny and poignant moments. Again it has the odd indie movie elements of periods of nothing, at least there was an ending. Select people will enjoy this film, even though they took a year to edit it, it could have stood a little more editing. Less Howard falling apart and more Howard dealing with the relationships thrown his way. Catch a midnight showing.

"She chose mad, right?

Bewitched - a star studded cast that I was not aware of grace the cast of this film. Of course we knew about Nicole Kidman, Will Ferrell, Shirely MacLaine, and Michael Cain. But also in the film were Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Kristin Chenoweth, and David Alan Grier. The film makers attempted to try something new rather than a hodge-podge of episodes jammed into one film, they instead created a new and yet old storyline.

Nicole Kidman plays Isabel Bigelow. She is a witch who has decided to give up her magical abilities and try to be normal. Will Ferrell plays Jack Wyatt a movie star who has lost his shine. His agent (Jason) convinces him to play Darrin in a new tv remake of Bewitched. His agent also convinces Jack to make the show all about him. Therefore, the studio needs to hire a no body to play Samantha. Hence Isabel is hired. Romantic comedy ensues.

This movie does have some laugh out loud funny moments. Michael Caine is delightful as Isabel's father. Kristen Chenoweth is adorable as Isabel's neighbor. Steve Carell is perfect as Uncle Arthur. I am not sure this is worth a rental but it would be worth it to watch on HBO or Showtime or Cinemax.
