Basically, don't interact with your neighbors - they are only out to get you...

Consenting Adults - stars Kevin Kline, Kevin Spacey, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Rebecca Miller. Star studded cast, not so stellar movie. Interesting side note that I did not know - Rebecca Miller is Arthur Miller's daughter and married to Daniel Day-Lewis! Just a little bit of trivia.

Eddy (Kevin Spacey) and Kay (Rebecca Miller) move in next door to Richard (Kevin Kline) and Priscilla (Mary E Mastrantonio). The couples become fast friends, sharing evenings together and eventually going away on mini vacations. Eddy finds out from Richard the couple's financial situation - they are in debt. Eddy then stages an accident in order to scam the insurance company. Eventually, Richard discovers that Eddy's ploy has been to sleep with Priscilla and "allow" Richard to sleep with Kay. Richard rejects this proposition which causes a rift between the two men. After pleading by Priscilla, unaware of the reason for the rift, Richard relents, becomes friends again and says yes to the switcheroo. On the night of the switch, he sleeps with Kay passing a gleeful Eddy in the stairwell. In the morning, Richard feels remorse, only to discover that Kay has been killed. Richard is the prime suspect and in one fell swoop is arrested and loses his wife. He makes bail discovers that Priscilla is now shacking up with Eddy, Eddy had a $1.5 million life insurance policy on Kay, and that Kay is not in fact dead. The movie continues on its delightful spiral downward. Let’s just say you know someone isn’t going stay alive much longer and that either Eddy or Richard will end up dead (I’ll let you hazard a guess as to who will remain standing).

Um, can you say what the hell? The plot is interesting. The film, however, is not. I can only call it clumsy. The film drags, the set ups are obvious, and then in points the film moves swiftly causing the viewer to forget logic and basic human emotion. There is no basis for Priscilla to suddenly shack up with Eddy - yes, she's lonely and scared - she believes her husband committed murder (which in itself is a little shocking to me - she believes in him so little, that she would believe him capable of murder!?) but Eddy is the grieving widower. Shouldn't she be giving him space? Shouldn't he be upset or morose, and that fact that he is not, wouldn't that be a red flag? I don't know what I was expecting, not this mess. Kevin Spacey plays a delightfully nasty, crazy man but even he does not make this movie worth a rent - skip it. You'll thank me, I promise.

"I'm just gonna go ahead an nip this thing in the bud. Cuz you know, they say pregnancy often leads to, you know…Infants..."

Juno - starring a stellar cast consisting of: Ellen Page, Michael Cera, J.K. Simmons, Allison Janney Jason Bateman, and Jennifer Garner.

The story is simple: high school friends Juno, Ellen Page, and Paulie Bleeker, Michael Cera, have sex. Juno becomes pregnant. She first decides to have an abortion but after being confronted with the idea that the baby has fingernails she decides instead to give it up for adoption. She finds a couple: Vanessa, Jennifer Garner, and Mark, Jason Bateman, who want to adopt. Juno's dad and step mom are quite the modern parents - reacting with a little anger, surprise and ultimately support. Juno is in the beginning a little cavalier about the situation - likening her body to a holy vessel. She is only in high school, a little odd, but witty. Ultimately, she does understand the gravity of her situation and she deals with it.

I adore Michael Cera. I was also excited to see any film that reunited George Michael with his dad (even though the two are not in any scenes together.) Ellen Page has deserved the praise thrown her way. This movie is a delight. It is quirky in a Little Miss Sunshine kind of way throwing in a bit of the Napoleon Dynamite weirdness. But all in all a wonderful film with a killer soundtrack. Watch it! Now!

"Oh, crap."

Hellboy Animated: Sword of Storms - including the vocal talents of Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, and Peri Galpin, the film is another foray into the world of Hellboy.

Hellboy is asked to look into the disappearance of a well known professor. The man's last known location is Japan; where he had recently discovered an ancient scroll that released a demon which in turn possessed the professor. Hellboy travels to Japan and is transported into a parallel world by the sword of storms - a sword that houses two demons trying to escape their prison and end the world of men. In order to leave the parallel world, Hellboy must successfully defeat a series of demons and monsters set in his path. Liz and Abe are sent to Japan once it is discovered that Hellboy has also disappeared and they must face demons that have been released by the possesed professor. Liz is fighting inner demons as she worries about her ability to control her powers.

I really enjoyed this film. It delves into Japanese folklore and mythos. The animation is striking and it is a real treat to have the continuity of voices from the film. If you are a fan of Hellboy, this is not to be missed. Highly entertaining with the right amounts of humor and action.

"Katie, there's a penis is your pocket." "It's not mine."

Red Doors - this was a great film. I recognized some of the actors in this film but there was no one who is really well known.

The story surrounds the Wong family. The patriarch, Ed, has just retired. His oldest daughter, Sam, is getting married. His middle daughter, Julie, is studying to become a doctor with no husband in sight. His youngest daughter, Katie, is ready to head off to college. The movie follows each person's life. Ed is at lose ends. He is getting older and not adjusting well. He spends his time attempting to commit suicide and transferring his old vhs home videos on to DVD. Sam is planning her wedding and runs into an ex who reminds her of dreams she gave up. Julie is thrown into the path of a movie star who is researching her next movie role. Katie is practicing her hip hop routine while trading spars with a boy.

This is your typical dysfunctional family comedy drama. It is set in the suburbs of New York with some trips into the Big Apple. All in all, this is a great movie. My only complaint is that it is a hair to short. Even having stated that I did enjoy the ending, I think if you enjoyed Saving Face, The Family Stone, or Home for the Holidays, you'll enjoy this film. Even if you hated those movies, rent this it is funny, sweet, charming, and delightful.

"Blow me, all right? But not literally, though. Unfortunately, there's no promotion involved for you."

The Departed - a star studded film: Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Sheen, Mark Wahlberg, and Alec Baldwin. This was directed by Martin Scorsese and based on an Asian film - and I believe it won an award or two in 2006, much deserved in my opinion.

Two men were raised in Boston and each has dealings with the Irish mob - headed by Francis Costello (Jack Nicholson). Each man enters the Massachusetts state police department. One at the behest of Francis Costello, one in attempt to avoid his past. One is asked to spy on Francis while wearing a badge, the other is asked to disappear into an undercover life, joining the Irish mafia and spies on Francis.

This was an excellent film, a little lengthy, but entertaining. The last half hour of the movie was a series of me saying "wow" and "WTH?" I enjoy mobster/police movies. I was interested the whole movie. Mark Wahlberg was excellent as was Martin Sheen, especially since I didn't realize either was in the film. Every actor in this film played their parts to a "T." The only semi-complaint - really a comment is that this was a very male movie. But that doesn't detract from the fact that is was an entertaining and excellent film.

" Can we please have an erection? What the hell is going on down there?"

Everything You Wanted To Know About Sex * but were afraid to ask - a Woody Allen film. At first I thought this movie was a miss. I find that Woody Allen's films are often hit or miss - Annie Hall versus The Secret of the Jade Scorpion. But after discussing this film with a friend I realized that in fact I only disliked two segments of the film completely and was pretty amused by the rest of the film.

The movie is divided into seven segments:(1) Do Aphrodisiacs Work? (2) What is Sodomy?
(3) Do Some Women Have Trouble Reaching Orgasm?(4) Are Transvestites Homosexuals?(5) What Are Sex Perverts? (6) Are the Findings of Doctors and Clinics Who Do Sexual Research Accurate? (7) What Happens During Ejaculation?

Each segment of the film is a homage to genre of film. The film does end a high note - Woody Allen plays a sperm and Burt Reynolds is the switchboard operator of the brain of the man about to have sex. I think segments (4) and (6) could have been left out. I thought segment (5) was mostly funny especially seeing such a young Regis Philbin.

Overall a worthwhile watch and not just for the Woody Allen fans.
